Man, this pen makes me feel like a woman.

There’s been a lot online lately about fake reviews on Amazon. I’m not talking about the well known writers who have admitted to writing their own or paying someone else to write flattering reviews of their books.

I’m talking about lady pens. Pens for ladies. Hens’ pens. Chick ink.

Amazon lists these features for theĀ BIC Cristal For Her Ball Pen:

  • Elegant design – just for her!
  • Thin barrel to fit a women’s hand

Hurray for the masses claiming an expected online forum to be creative. It’s sort of a literary flash mob.

Here are some snippets from the reviews:

Someone has answered my gentle prayers and FINALLY designed a pen that I can use all month long! I use it when I’m swimming, riding a horse, walking on the beach and doing yoga. It’s comfortable, leak-proof, non-slip and it makes me feel so feminine and pretty! (Tracey Hamilton)

The colors let me know they’re safe for me, because I’m a woman and have to look out for things like that (ladies, watch out– if it’s bright yellow/red/orange and black, it might be a power tool, and those are dangerous). (L. Davis)

I was so tired of ruining all my lip-liner pencils to write checks to my Avon lady and suffering the embarrassment of pulling out a MAN’s pen at the beauty parlor. Now with a pen made with MY feminine needs in mind, I feel more confident in every aspect of my life. My cakes are fluffier, my casseroles crunchier, and my are floors cleaner! (Andrew L. Heyart)

Does Bic make pens for men? My male friends would love to be able to write with a pen made for them. (Linda Ewen “le5691”)

Interestingly, if you go back through the reviews, there are a lot of positive comments that sound a little flakey after you’ve read 20 pages of snark.

Are the Bic marketing people worried about 600 sarcastic reviews? I doubt it. In fact, one wonders . . .
